LT1 is a 5.7L 350ci V8 motor that is factory rated at 280hp but has proven to dyno over 270 whp stock on numerous F-Body and Corvette applications. Do not get the earlier LT-1 version confused with the 3rd gen LT1. The LT1 can be thanked for the LSx applications that you see today.

@cjtkvincent I had an 88 gt and dropped a 388 stroker in it. I had a carb set up tho. About 5k in it with cost of the car

Probably. If you're handy, have some Fiero savvy friends who have done swaps, you could do it for much less. Fast Fieros will put a 3800SC in your Fiero for about $9k.

why not just buy a corvette?

Corvettes are neat, but the Fiero can be fooled with for low bucks.

I think the LT1 can be either a small or big block.

According to Wikipedia:
"In 1992, GM created a new-generation small-block engine called the LT1, similar to the high-output Generation I LT-1 of the 1970s. It displaced 5.7 L (350 cu in) and was a 2-valve pushrod design."
Looks like an LT1 or LT-1 is a small block.
