CAMPBELL RIVER - A Campbell River couple is at the centre of a new society that wants to help people challenged by mobility issues have more access to North Island parks and attractions.
Dan and Judy Bauer of the Accessible Wilderness Society are helping to produce a new guide that will promote outdoor activities to those who require wheelchairs, scooters and walkers.

The couple says brochures and pamphlets that exist now give an idea of which spots claim to be wheelchair accessible but when the pair physically visit the locations they find many are not wheelchair friendly.

7,500 copies of the publication will be printed and will be sold at various stores on the island but a large number will also be donated to island hotels so they can be used by hotel staff to point guests in the right direction.

The society hopes to have the guide released to the public by April 1st and will then begin working on a similar guide for the southern half of Vancouver Island. More information on the society is available at www.awsociety.org
