What a superb rendition of this ,Mendelssohn,s most respectful nod towards his brief stay in Scotland. I can only be thankful that he didn.t land in Glasgow, otherwise we wouldnt have had such a wonderful piece of music to listen to.......Can you imagine what his Glasgow Symphony would have sounded like? As a Scotsman,I shudder to think..Thank goodness he saw the best of Scotlands beauty and wrote accordingly. Shit Hot

@Psyche777able The Hebrides is a collective name for a group of islands off the shores of Scotland. The "cave" mentioned is named "Fingel's Cave" (in the Hebrides).

his grandfather taught him well. He was a gifted young composer of great music.
Always loved this piece of music. Is the Hebrides Caves located in Scotland?

Gorgeous recording: patiently passionate, nuanced and still dramatic. Thanks for posting!

Fritz Lehmann's Ein Deutsches Requiem mono recording (1955) is probably the best ever.
-
Wow, this is the most exciting recording I've heard!

This was one of my favorite songs when I was 8. Heard it on the radio and loved it.
-
Yeah, this is definitely going to the Favorites...

no my friend.... historically classic music had beem always for the few!!!
the many were listening to folk and traditional, and today the folk is listening to something quite the same in a more fancy and trendy way...
classic music had always been a good for the few of aristocracy, either in welth or in interlectual way
Just learned that several Lehmann items have been taken out of the DG catalogue again... :( I wish Universal had some "feeling" for their heritage!
greetings, Rolf
