Hungarian Rhapsody No.9 in E flat major; second version of Magyar Rapszodiak No. 22 (S.242) composed in 1846; revised and published in 1853; dedicated to Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst (1814-1865), one of the foremost violinists of his time.
Pester Carnival is one of the longest and most brilliant of Liszt's rhapsodies. It is a wonderful combination of Hungarian dance melodies with extensive musical content and of enormous technical difficulties; and the elaborate finale, uses the Hungarian folk-song "-Mikor en meg legeny voltam-".

Totally amazing! As always with Kentner, stupendous virtuosity is firmly and uncompromisingly put in service of the music. How many other pianists can this be said of?

I have Kentner's LP Box-Set of all of the Rhapsodies, inc.the Spanish and Romanian ones. It has been my very favorite collection of them for several decades.
Thanks much for the posts.
Cheers. :-))

"It doesn't really matter from what source the melodies of the Hungarian Rhapsodies came from originally -- the hand of the master make them Liszt.and nothing but Liszt"...(Kentner)
