#18 Viktor Stalberg - "The Swedish Rocket"

After struggling to be noticed throughout his life, including being overlooked twice in the NHL Entry Draft, Viktor Stalberg has finally gained recognition this year by becoming one of the NCAA's top scorers. He was drafted in his third draft eligible year, 2006, in the 6th round (#161 overall) by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

2008/2009 marked his junior year at the University of Vermont (UVM) playing for the Catamounts. His breakout year resulted in his nomination for the Hobey Baker award, which goes to the top NCAA player in the country, and Stalberg made it as far as the final 10 before failing to make the top 3 finalists.

Off the ice, Stalberg maintains a 3.6 GPA majoring in Business Administration.

I apologize for the quality of some of the clips, NCAA hockey doesn't have the same kind of equipment as the NHL. In most clips you can see Stalberg wearing #18, but if it's not clear he is usually the left winger, and he is not always the goal scorer in these highlights.

EDIT: On April 14, 2009, the Leafs signed Stalberg to a two-year entry-level contract. Stalberg will therefore forego his senior season at UVM.
