By the middle of the 19th century, the benefits brought by the host of advances of the industrial age were gradually beginning to reach America, which soon developed a spectacular achievement of its own - the Transcontinental Railway, reaching right across the continent. They battled against hostile terrain, hostile inhabitants, civil war and the Wild West. With two teams, one building from the east and the other from California in the west, they battled against hostile terrain, hostile inhabitants, civil war and the Wild West. Yet in 1869, the two teams' tracks were joined, shrinking the whole American continent, as the journey from New York to San Francisco was reduced from months to days.

  • One BBC documentary is better than 1000 American documentaries put together. That is a historical fact.

  • @PRNCESSHHKNEELDOWN its a bit late but its an episode from the bbc series seven wonders of the industrial world if you like this episode try and get a hold of the dvd there's excellent episodes on the Hoover Dam Brooklyn Bridge and Panama Canal

  • @faceman96 Hooray for our red neck population!

  • @JavaLuCpp It pains me to say this, but you are right. The history channel used to do great documentries that rivaled anything the BBC could do. Nowadays there's nothing but worthless reality shows that features people who catch alligators, or pawn shop employees who are about as intelegent as a rock. Even the serious documentires are more flash than fact. It's a sad state of affairs when shows that are supposed to educate instead pander to the idiots. God help us all, we're doomed.

  • Example?

  • @kimokamal5 actually, that is an opinion. Go watch Tim Burtons "the civil war" then get back to us.

  • Theodore Judah got the short end of the stick. Sad.

  • @kimokamal5 Mean while on histroy channel. UFO spotters and Ghost busters.

  • @kimokamal5

Agree. I hope that Americans, one day, can make the documentaries that are better than BBC.

  • What is the name of the opening song that plays in the background?

  • A shay playing Jupiter and a K27 as 119??? why didnt they film at Golden spike NHS, that wouldve been better train waise, but a great documentary nonetheless
