Nice video but could you please post a comment telling how many millivolts in an open circuit you should read/measure on a good thermocouple? I know you did say 10 millivolts using the closed circuit with the Robertshaw 10-038. Thank you. I agree Fieldpiece makes good meters. Got my first one a mew months ago and it is HVAC specific to my trade and I can leave 3 meters in the truck when I have this one, especially doing clean and checks on furnaces and A/C.

been looking for a video on themocoupler for a while on here... so whats the lowest in milli volts GENERALY speaking for a BAD thermocoupler?... and is there somewhere u can check for a spec on your furnace/water heater?... i was told u "should see atleast 25-30 milli volts" for a good one..and was told thermopiles shoud produce around 750 milli... what do u think??

Hey whats up man !!!
Thank You for the Great thermocouple tips !!!
Fieldpiece Rules , got the same meter !!!
Lookin forward to more videos Brother !!!
If your pilot goes out when you turn it to on then you may have a bad gas control valve. You need to replace it with the correct one for your water heater. as for a good reading on a thermocouple in an open circuit in the twenty range. a new one will be in the area of 25-27 . once you get down to the mid teens i would replace it. assuming the pilot assemble is clean and you have the flame one the thermocouple correctly.
