This is a collection of my favorite timelapse shots that I took over a 3 week camping road trip with my wife and son this past summer.
Locations include:
- Rocky Mountain National Park
- Zion National Park
- Monument Valley
- Mesa Verde National Park
- Glacier National Park
- Sawtooth National Forest (Mt. McGowan)
Equipment:
- Canon 7d with Tamron 17-50mm VC lens
- GoPro
- Panasonic HMC40
Shot as JPEG photos, color corrected and batch processed in Lightroom 3, strung together with Quicktime 7 Pro and exported in full 5k resolution, and edited in Final Cut X. FCPX is pretty awesome in that you never wait for a render whatsoever, not even after doing time remapping to 5k files.
Some things I learned while shooting:
- my camera has a ton of dead pixels
- 2 year olds are not the best time-lapse shooting partners, but they do help pass the time
- Patience, resist the urge to stop or view your progress
- Its probably always best to remove your lens filter when shooting toward sun or moon
- 17mm on a crop sensor is just not wide enough for many occasions
- photo flicker is a pain, even in full manual
- Final Cut X has its upsides and downsides
- timelapse is addicting
A special thanks to Tad Hutchinson for making me the audio track "array"

Nice! I have the HMC-40 and a Nikond7000. How do you like the HMC-40? I think for a daylight camera it is hard to beat! Very easy to shoot and easy timelapse. Thank you
