I think what he was referring to is a stopping point... people tend to be so entertained by the works he wrote for the Charlie Brown series of films and shows that they sort of forget to look any further/deeper. There's a whole breadth of work Vince did. .. that's not to discount the Peanuts works... but it is to highlight a point that he accomplished more than that.

"my father was a great jazz penist. period."

Thank you for all the wonderful relaxed hep and cool music to accompany those 1960-70 era drive in movies, and later television specials for the kids of that era. I hope that your documentary picks up a new head of steam really soon!

5 1/2 years since this was posted and we're still waiting for that documentary. That "Anatomy of V.G." thing from last year sucked after the first half hour.

@MichaelMogg The greatness of Vince Guaraldi's work on the Peanuts cartoons made me keen to find out more about him. So those cartoons were a great starting point, especially growing up as a child when jazz wasn't played on mainstream radio. I think as a pianist he deserves the highest of accolades.

Anyone know what the name of the tune (based on "Rhythm" changes) that accompanies this video and what album it's on?

thanks Vince for letting me cover your tunes! I sure have made many folks happy playing your music. I have also introduced your music to many, many, children--and I know you are happy about that.

His son seems quite angry. I rejoice that Vince had the blessing of being well known. His music will never go away--I teach it to my students--by ear, just like Vince did it. I guess I would be a little upset too if I was that well known for the TV cues and not for serious jazz. Bill Evans was probably jealous of Vince--not the other way around. I can sure hear an influence from both pianists in their music.

Thumbs up 900%.

Total Legend! I agree with all the folks who are suggesting we look beyond the Peanuts stuff ( it's great ) but his work goes much deeper. Check his stuff with Bola Sete. I promise you will not be disappointed! I know he's rated quite highly but I still think he's underrated :)
hey guys thanks for all the positive comments. :)
