Israeli archaeologists claim to have unearthed the oldest Hebrew text ever found. Discovered while excavating a fortress city, apparently it dates back from the 10th century B.C. and refers to the Bible when King David slew Goliath. Here's more on the story.

STORY:
Archaeologists uncover Israel's most foregone past near the ancient battlefield in the Valley of Elah. It is now home to wineries and a satellite station.

The professor of archaeology at the Hebrew University led the excavations.

[Yosef Garfinkel, Archaeology Professor]:
"This inscription...is the oldest Hebrew inscription in the world. It's pre-dated the Dead Sea Scrolls by 1,000 years."

Experts have not been able to decipher the full text as yet, but several words, including "judge", "slave" and "king," were identified. They hope the text will shed light on how alphabetic scripts developed.

[Yosef Garfinkel, Archaeology Professor]:
"It is written in Proto-Canaanite script which is the father and mother of all the alphabetic script in the world, the Greek, the Latin, the Hebrew, the Phoenician, the Aramein (Aramaic), all the alphabet in the world derived from this script that appears here on this specific piece of pottery."

Carbon dating of artifacts found at the site indicate the Hebrew inscription was written about 10th century B.C. This is a time when scholars believe King David ruled Jerusalem and ancient Israel.

[Yosef Garfinkel, Archaeology Professor]:
"This inscription was found in a site... located on the border between Judah and the Philistine. It was a fortified city from the time of King David, about 3,000 years ago."

Garfinkel says the recent findings could have wider repercussions over the future of Jerusalem.

[Yosef Garfunkel, Archaeology Professor]:
"Currently there is a heated debate about the historical value of the Bible-if we have historical information, or it's only theological and literary composed hundreds of years later. Our site clearly proves that already in the early 10th century B.C. there was a kingdom in Judea and that King David existed as a king and that he built fortified cities."

Modern-day Israel often mentions a biblical connection through King David to Jerusalem in supporting its claim to all of the city as its "eternal and indivisible capital."

For the Palestinians, however, the long-standing Arab population in Jerusalem takes over any biblical claims. They want the eastern part of the city to be the capital of the state they hope to establish in the West bank and Gaza trip.

  • We could gind noahs arch w/ dinasaur droppings in it

& Athiest & Evolutionist still wouldnt believe....,

If they would, then right now they would pray & ask God if he is real to reveal himself to them,

& come into their heart & life in the meantime if he wants to :-)

  • @TheRightOffensive Just dont forget, the Nazi funders and keepers of that ideology are STILL running things. Most arent aware of a declassified document discovered at the end of ww2. Intelligence report no.EW-Pa 128. It was kept classified til '96. And it shows that the nazi party were industrialists. They planned to infiltrate the corporate world in the U.S. & we helped with operation paperclip. Companies like IBM,Dupont,& Ford. Nazi front companies. hard to believe, but true. 4th riech coming.

  • @2skullscrushing I see what you mean though I have to say its only 2012 and about 100 'online atheist characters' here on YT insist that Hitler was a 'Christian' and a 'Capitalist'. We used to say 'We shall never forget' but just a generation later it's becoming 'We will revise and rewrite it'. Ugh.

  • @TheRightOffensive probably true in instances, but ww2 doesnt have a world and evil working against its truth.

  • @2skullscrushing A better explanation is that there are accounts of a great flood. Moses writes the most accurate or 'official' account. This is observed today. There are accounts of WW2 written in 1950. (some not even perfectly accurate but okay), then very good documented accounts in 1955. In 1970s BBC did some of the most extensive and accurate accounts ever made.

  • Every time I hear news like this, it draw me more closer to GOD, it just shows that He is a Sovereign God who reveals the truth to let us know He is real.Glory be to GOD in the highest!!!

  • @JPBeViL Abraham came from sumer area, which is where the gilgamesh stories where found. So they where knowing the flood story in Sumer while Abraham was there. Which was I'm sure an old story even then. Since every handed down story, was in oral form, who's to say one of noahs ancestors, in sumer, didnt change the names to update the old tale? Or that the real names of noah and his family were forgotten over time? because remember when moses wrote the first books, God dictated that to him.

  • @2skullscrushing hold on... I do believe in this worlds past, but this discovery still doesn't prove anything except for the fact that whoever wrote on that pottery knew stories from the bible, or vice versa(if you go back a bit and thing of the sumerian texts, namely, the flood, which was also in the bible).. if you want toget closer to the truth, go as far in the past as humanly possible.

  • Found something old in the sand? Start killing eachother and claim your ancestry NOW!
