Sacha Baron Cohen Filming "Bruno"

The Yellow Mic was shooting at a Yes on 8 Rally in 2008 and ran across Sacha Baron Cohen doing a skit there for his upcoming movie, "Bruno."

We honestly were just interviewing protesters for a news program and this mass of cameras and mics engulfed us. Damian, my host, didn't know what was going on at first, as you can see. I recognized Sacha before Damian did and diligently kept the camera on him, although I was tethered to Damian via the mic chord.

Note that I stepped away from the crowd and all of the craziness, but still got a good shot. There was no reason for those paparazzi to be in his face...but I guess thats what they do. I believe half of those cameras belonged to the "Bruno" production and you can see the guys who are acting crazy, grabbing mics, etc. They are paparazzi (I guess?). Sacha unfortunately got ganged up on and had to drop character and get outta there.

It looked at the beginning like he was pointing to me and saying he would do an interview with us (the only two kid reporters amongst the chaos), but after he had to walk away from the mob he was understandably shaken and his entourage (or producers or whatever) didn't want anyone near him.

The rally was already intense before he showed up. Think, this was half people fighting for civil rights and half fired up religious people on the other side. Too much tension - even for Bruno.

This clip was also seen on KTLA news and PerezHilton.com....but not in the movie!

I personally think its a shame that Prop 8 passed. What do you think?

Someone asked me if I thought Bruno helped or hurt the gay community. I said neither. They said hurt.

I actually remember thinking the movie was really funny, but I don't really have any desire to see it again.

Sacha broke a lot of comedy ground with it (interviewing a terrorist), but overall its just a dumb movie. A dumb movie thats funny. Its simply not as big as the marriage issue or anything else like that. Thats why I don't think it helps to get hung up on the political correctness of a comedian or a comedic movie. Just my 2 cents.

If I recognized him I wouldn't scream "SACHA!" or "It's Bruno!"... I would just go along with whatever he's doing and make a funny weird shocked suprised face lol and then maybe I would get a screening haha

well, he's not really gay, Bruno - the character is. People don't see difference between real life and screen characters. Lol. Well ok, Sacha is provocative, just look at his scripts, but that's not a reason, he's just a comedian.
