After reading "Ringworld" I set out to collect as much Known Space related material; I bought all the Ringworld books but also the Known Space book collections and the Man-Kzin Wars spin off books.
I also collected the two Ringworld games by Tsunami, sadly a third game to complete the saga; Within ARM's reach was never released, and the later Ringworld books made the story of the games sort of irrelevant :(

my version came with the book and that got me hooked on niven for years

Those were the golden times of FM synthesizer soundcards. PCM cards were expensive back then. I bought a Terratec MIDI soundcard with PCM sounds for (DM 630.-, that's about 330 Euros today). You can get a whole computer for that money nowadays.

My first time through this game I was stuck for two days on a particular part involving a hidden lever. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same predicament you found yourself in.

OI! I remember that EXACT same predicament when I played this game as a kid. It's the hidden lever in the back room of the Kzinti palace, isn't it? Yah, I was stuck on that part for days and this was a time BEFORE internet walkthroughs, so I basically went crazy and clicked everywhere I possibly could in that room until landing on the secret lever! lol
Ah, old adventure games... good times, good times! Thx for posting this! Where can I download the game and emulator you mentioned?

Hardest part in the game. Abandonia . com has it along with its sequel, thought the latter has no sound. Dosbox . com for the emulator.
