Saturday 27th August 2011 marked an important day for the Class 40 Preservation Society, with the long awaited and triumphant return of D335 (40135) to passenger service at the East Lancashire Railway. A moment very much anticipated by many people for two years and three months, following D335's major bogie issues (including a long period at Barrow Hill for the repair work to be carried out).

Such an opportunity could not be resisted, and so I took myself off to the ELR to have a ride or two behind the green Whistler. The usual locations take in Bury Bolton Street (station and the Metrolink 'Ski Jump'), Summerseat, Ramsbottom, Irwell Vale, Rawtenstall and Heywood. The film concludes with a short photo montage of pictures taken that same day.

Much whistler thrashing and bashing aplenty, and also featuring a cameo from Rob Bray, alias 37057viking! LOL

Although a historic day for all concerned, there is still a long way to go before D335's sister engine 40145 is up and running again too (plus, it requires a great deal of money to be raised). For more information on how to help, visit the Class 40 Preservation Society's website at: http://www.cfps.co.uk

  • @doonedave Thanks Dave.

  • @87006 Cheers Tom! There's always the Autumn Gala, where I'm certain she'll be running by then.

  • nice one Dave, like the bend shots, good idea to get further back from the engine rather than just have the backend of it in yer face

  • Nicely filmed David bloody shame I could'nt make this one D335 is a belting machine. And yes everybody get your hands in your pockets and lets get 145 whistling on the mainline again. great vid Dave 87006.
