Atari - Pole Position game

This is a capture of a game of Pole Position I played on an Atari 65XE 8-bit computer. The computer and games (I have 10 others, amongst them classics like Asteroids and Space Invaders) I bought at a flea market for 1 euro! The joystick is a bit worn, so that may cause my somewhat flimsy steering.

Notice the oddities of the Atari racing car: it never runs out of fuel, tires never wear, but it explodes on impact. However, you get a brand new car each time you screwed up a bit! The car only has brakes (fire button) and a gear shift (joystick forward/backwards), full throttle is applied automatically. Steering is by pushing the joystick to the left or right, so you either drive forward or apply full lock!

These are the greatest video games of all time and even back then they were affordable.Im still on a PS2 since the damn 3 is still too spendy.Im leaning towards finding a coleco vision and get all the classics again..

We've come a long way. I got this game in 1987 when I was 11. Loved it. I also had Krazy Kopter, Caverns of Kafka, Lone Raider, Ninja, War Copter, Milk Race, Slinky, Eastern Front, etc. I had an Atari 800XL with 64KB RAM. The software was on tape and you need to load it using what they called a program data recorder. It'd take forever to load.
