An often debated topic by those who don't think The Venus Project will work is the notion that we don't have the technology to pull this off. This video addresses this. If you want the full uncut version, let me know.

  • ... which would have been enough time to understand how it works.

In terms of nuclear power plants... next to alternative power sources, they aren't really needed, but in order to get them working as efficiently as possible, we had the means to convert nuclear waste into Plutonium (which can be used as a power source for other things) since the early inception of nuclear power.

And those are just a few examples. Look it up and educate yourselves in regards to our technological capabilities.

  • Solar panels were invented in the 1950's.

Had recycling technology been implemented globally, we could have constructed solar panels on the ground during the 1960's and 1970's, afterwards launching solar panels into space and using wireless means of power transfer (the technology was invented by Tesla over a century ago - he had a working prototype back then - and even if it was not understood fully, they could have taken a team of scientists, disassemble the thing and study it for a decade....

  • Things to keep in mind though:

Recycling technology was available on an industrial scale application in the early 20th century. So we could have created resource abundance from mountains of trash back then in terms of building materials coupled with heavy automation.

Keeping that in mind, Geothermal power was also available in the earlt 20th century in terms of practical use. Coupled with recycling tech, numerous areas of the world could have been powered via Geothermal means by today.

  • I"m sorry I don't care what any society tells me....I am going to let my dog crap on any lawn he sees fit!

  • There was an experiment where they beamed power from one of the Hawaiian Islands to another. They only had the budget to do it once, and they did rather well. If they'd been able to try again, and again, and again, they'd have done even better.

  • I'm to new to this to give any informed opinions about communism, anarchy, or technocracy. As far as transhumanism goes, I don't see why, in a world of universal abundance (especially of energy) you wouldn't have as many cyberpeople as the tech of the day (and the dictates of fashion) will allow.

  • I"m sorry I don't care what any society tells me....I am going to drive my Cadillac Escalade and ride my Harley Davidson as much and as often as I see fit!

  • Technology isn't the reason that The Venus Project is an utopia - politics is!

  • -

renewables could have built themselves if they could match oil - windmills, solar concentrators could have been built in c19th; we had bicycles and electric trains, even today i do think private cars could be eliminated. (including using teleworking). I dont beleive renewables can match fossil-fuels. hydrogen fuel cell was invented at same time as internal combustion engine. Fossil-Fuels were like a lottery win. renewables are like low income from shit job.

  • When we have abundant, cheap, renewable energy, we need to get electric cars that can use this energy, and get off our oil drunkenness.
