  • Actually, I pretty much like the fact that this aria is sung with a "dark" voice. It evades all the traps and pitfalls of yelling this aria instead of singing it. Beautifully done, magnificent voice, warm color. I like it.

  • fantastic!!!!! thanks Jonas for this timbre exotic an sensual!!!

i´ve seen him live and his voice sounds absolutely natural like this and powerful. He is a true intelligent musician who serves music trough his great instrument and soul.God bless him!!!!!!!!

It is also so easy to give an opinion about a singer for those who never expereinced what is it to sing like a pro!

  • @reduxmisc Absolutely right. And the mic for the HD makes him sound huge. His voice isn't that large and i know he's mic'd at the Met. This sound is anything BUT natural. It's all swallowed. No squillo at all. If Kathleen Battle was mic'd at the met and even pavarotti then i know Kaufmann is as well. This is awful singing. I saw the Faust recently at the Met and in the trio at the end all you hear is Pape's voice in the theatre. In the broadcast, all i can hear is Kaufmann. So stupid.

  • As a former singer myself I learned long ago that 90% of the audience just doesn't know the difference between what is good singing and bad singing. It's amazing, they just can't hear. As a singer I found this very frustrating which is one of the reasons I stopped. Today it is worse than ever... it's all flash. Who looks good, was it a nice production... etc. Art? Whats Art? Tradition? Who cares or knows anymore.

  • Kaufman...you don't have even talk!

  • Man, I'm just amazed that he can even get through the murderous tessitura with the technique that he uses. He's a light baritonal tenor that uses compression in all registers ... His roots are those of a lyric tenor though ( I really can't imagine Ramon Vinay singing this!) and if I had to guess I would say that he had a baritone as a teacher at a crucial point in his development ... Very strange to hear him sing this ... but all in all a most excellent and interesting singer
