this is already ben switched guts but I found a another of the exact G.E.clock radio with that board and a smashed case and used the clock for another nicer radio repair so now I will just swap the board again and re cap it so it will be to the 1983 history of it
why not replace its guts with modern equipment

Never, EVER do that. That's sacrelige. Besides, vintage equipment is far easier to repair than modern Sino-Fecal stuff....
