Despite being a parliamentary democracy in appearance, absolute power resides in the hands of the unelected President on account of the 17th Constitutional Amendment of the General Pervez Musharraf era. Similarly, the opposition appears virtually listless despite myriad serious problems besetting the country and the extreme anxiety among the masses from governmental support of US policies.
