Nora visited the American Girl store near Atlanta for her 3rd birthday. We picked out Nora's first American Girl doll and had a party. The store manager offered to open the store early so we could shop without and chance of Nora getting sick. Nora is dying from SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy). SMA is the #1 genetic killer of infants and 90% of Type-1 SMA kids don't live to see their 2nd birthday, some never make it to their first. SMA is a horrible disease that weakens all the voluntary muscles of the body. Cough, sitting, standing, swallowing, hands, fingers, toes - everything skeletal is affected. Nora has almost no movement left. Her brain is not affected though she she's like any normal 3-year-old but trapped in a failing body. She is growing weaker and weaker as the disease progresses. There is no treatment for SMA and there is no cure. We just make the most of the time we have left with Nora.

I hate to be rude, but after reading your description I felt like you didnt use the word dying lightly. Which i suppose you can't, but it seems like when you say "slowly dying" that it's a lot more harsh than it needs to be. Maybe a "rapidly weakening body and skeletal system". I can very much read between the lines, it just hurts to see how you're using the words, anyways, she's beautiful and i hope she has a wonderful life.
