Part 1 - Alfred Dubois - Mozart Vn. Conc. #6 (K268)

Violinist Alfred Dubois along with Desire Defauw conducting the Brussels Conservatory Orch. performing Mozart's Violin Concerto #6 (K268). Recorded for French Columbia in 1932. The attribution to Mozart may not be correct. I've written about Dubois on others of my posts. He made only a couple of dozen records. Some have been reissued on a couple of currently available CD's, but this set has never been reissued. Dubois has a small but very enthusiatic following.

@1920sbuff I read of a famous collector who spent 15 years trying to find this set. However, it is the Bach recordings which move me the most.

I never knew Dubois made a recording of Mozart concerto - very interesting and impressive, although sometimes it seems that he was too much enthusiastic about his Belgian vibrato. Thanks for posting this. By the way, you say this record is an Odeon pressing, but made for French Columbia?

@transformingArt In Germany, French Columbias were issued on Odeon.

It seems to me quite clear that this is not Mozart. What do you others think ? It's in the manners of the epoch, you can find lots of "forgotten" composers - who are quite charming - who whould write like that. It make me think a bit of Franz Xaver Mozart, with a lots of developpements that never really "makes" it. From 01:50 or 2:07, it seems quite clear. It lacks what would Mozart would have done in those musical situations...

@merrihew I agree the Bach renditions are incredible, although I like all these performances in what some might call an "old" style today. Although I admit we have many excellent, more historically oriented performers nowadays, I'll always have a weakness for the more traditional estetical approach.

I have a violin that sounds like that. It was made in China and i payed 30 dollars for it. Alfred needed a little less nasal sounding machine.
