If you pay attention during the minor skirmish that ensues after you don't stop talking to Calo Nord after he takes down those Vulkars(and switch on the Floating Numbers in the options menu)you'll notice that Calo Nord kills you after doing on 3 pts of damage or so to you or Carth!
