@lookingathis He gave one of the best performances of all time - you should be very proud of him. The Best Years of Our Lives is (imho) the best movie ever made, but it would have been nothing without Russell.

Sure you were!
With all the dumb comments I read on the boards, how was anyone to know? I thought you needed some enlightening.

@erroldoyle Hey dummie..I was making a JOKE!!!!

Sound films came in 1928. This Oscar event took place in 1947 for the films made in 1946, long after the advent of sound.
-
Harold Russell deserved both of his Oscars. He gave a memorable performance in 'The Best Years of Our Lives'.

I'm glad you put "sorry, no sound" in your descriptiion! For a moment there, I'd thought I'd gone deaf!
-
THIS must of been during WHEN THERE WAS NO SOUND IN PICTURES...

this was the year lionel barrymore was not nominated for 'its a wonderful life'. so unfair. one of the greatest supporting performances of all time.

You should be proud of your grandfather. Hollywood made a mistake by not casting him in more projects. I wrote your grandfather a fan letter about 15 years ago and he graciously responded. There is some disagreement on the Wikipedia discussion page, on the article of him, as to when he moved to Boston. Maybe you can help clear it up.
