do you have some recent videos?have you tried to implement other types of therapies for your child? your child is verbal?

@EaSiCerulVerde currently we're just doing traditional speech therapy and OT. Been on an break from heavy RDI. He is verbal but still pretty echolalic and rarely speaks to communicate anything other than something he needs.

@fatakw thank you for your reply...i am thinking about working RDI with my sister's child who is autistic...did you find it effective?how old is your son and how long have you been working with him?

@EaSiCerulVerde Henry is 8 now and starting 3rd grade in an autism class though he is in gen-ed for math and science. We had an RDI consultant for about 2 years a couple years back and have since just tried to use what we have learned in our everyday interactions with him as much as we can. RDI is brilliant. I highly recommend reading up on it. Good Luck!

#1--THANK YOU for posting these videos!! SO great for me to actually SEE how different families are implementing RDI. Question: I'm noticing about 1/2 way through this "making rice" exercise that you're not giving Henry a whole lot of positive reinforcement AS you're doing each little "task",like nodding your head to say yes, or offering big smiles as affirmations when you're pouring the water, or when he brings the bagt closer so you can cut it w/ the scissors. Is there a reason for that? Thx

@fatakw do you consider to put Henry in a class with typical children in the future?we will try to apply RDI as well, thank you for rour recomendations.also, have you tried others types of therapies before. like ABA and TEACCH?

I work with special needs children, most of which are on the spectrum and I think this video is really neat. It's a cool way to communicate. :)

The RDI operating system was not letting me upload videos tonight, so I used youtube as backup plan. As soon as I posted it, I saw a link to this great video clip! It is so wonderful to see other parents' RDI videos on here. My wife and I have been implementing RDI with our son (now 8)for abut two years. Continued good luck!

as for OT, we haven't really done that with Henry (except for at school), but he does take a gymnastics class on the weekend that seems to help him a lot - plus he loves it. please feel free to email me if you have other questions. i wish you luck - this can be a hard time in the beginning but it does get better. hang in there!
