  • I hit this all the time... you have to have a good squeeze. No technique is ever 100%. My feet are never crossed below the waist or you are open for an ankle lock. I often hit the inverted triangle or go to Spider web off this position. I hit it twice in training tonight, but then again..I could give you 50 bucks get you laid and you'd still complain.. :)

  • John:

Its the internet! A 2 minute clip an people will make judgments after all. It is plain to see however that you ankles are ABOVE the waist and the 'common no no of crossing your feet" doesn't apply. Funny enough, BJ PENN and Rousimar Palhares both have done this in UFCs.

  • this is an extreamly inefective technique because it is often hard to to get arm in so you can hold on the back guard.... also he states that you should cross your legs and that is a common misconception because they will triangle your feet messing you up making u tap out

  • John gets this rolling so it can't suck as much as you think. Also, notice that John's feet are crossed HIGH above the waist thus keeping it away from the ankle lock.

Eddie is heard off camera praising John as well. I think that says something too but I'll let John chime in here.

  • Who singles with their head on the outside, though? Double, yeah. Single, you wanna tuck the nose to the leg to prevent a cross-face. Look at 21 Seconds. Might as well pull back into a cross-face to make distance, then RNC after a break and double hooks, or be in a perfect position for a crucifix? Just looks like a very sloppy shoot position is all.

  • the intro sound is the T-rex from Jurassic Park. I found that out last night!!!

  • Submissions101 is the greatest for me because I am not rich so i cant afford high class gym to train at plus there is no one around he at that.

  • Seems like this is for "failed" single legs after the sprawl and the shooter is either tired or inexperienced and doesn't want to give up the leg.

  • I get it usually off the transition from front head and arm control to the back with the over under grip... I just leave the leg out there as bait, and 7 out of 10 times the opponent will grab your leg...then you just trap it and go to work :)

  • oh, i didn't see that he gave him his leg, i was going to say, you could have not given him your leg and put it over his head and just fell back. we call it the Rodrigo choke at my gym.

  • There is another way you could do that, after you sprawled and grabbed him under the arm you can put your front leg over his head and just lean back, you'll have him strangled in less than 5 seconds.

  • that looks like when BJ Penn put Jens Pulver in a body triangle trapping his arm then going for the RNC

  • Good Point cyclissmo. Not everything works for all people and I find that many bjj police types will insist that their is one way to do things. There isn't. You make the game YOUR own and that is why it is such a wonderful art.

    peace!

  • I suppose so. Even still, no high level grappler I've ever rolled with just grabs one leg and sits there like that.

But I concede that it MAY work, if it fits naturally into your game. That's the beauty of jits. Thanks for sharing.

  • Listen to what i say at the 58 second mark. If he is defending with the hand..now there's no defense at all.
