In 1947, Mother Emile Ange, fmm and Bishop Cushing collaborated to build a hospital for children. While waiting the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary were prepared as XRAY and lab technicians, therapists and in finances. The Franciscan Missionaries of Mary were the pioneers of a special hospital for children. They administered and staffed the hospital. Major donor of the hospital was the Kennedys. The hospital was named after their son Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. who died in a plane crash during WWII. Another donors were Lou and Lutza Smith. The hospital celebrates its 60th Anniversary and is now known as the Franciscan Hospital for Children.
