Short film of the 60163 Tornado, a LNER Peppercorn Class A1 locomotive that entered service in 2008 after 14 years, and close to £3million, was spent building it from scratch, as none of the original 49 locomotives built survived into preservation.
The film was taken at Bishops Lydeard railway station on Sunday 5th September on the last day of the West Somerset Railways "Late Summer Weekend" gala. The following is what the programme guide had to say about the locomotive:
"An unexpected but very welcome addition to the Late Summer Weekend line-up and thank you to the A1 Locomotive Trust for making Britain's most modern express steam locomotive available to us. Since it appeared in service in 2008 "Tornado" has bid to become the best known steam engine in Britain, rivalling "Flying Scotsman" and demonstrating that Arthur Peppercorn's final design of "Pacific" for the East Coast express trains north from Kings Cross was a very potent finale design for a great tradition"
They used 4472's second tender for 60163's new tender!
