Ahh, the end of the Dyed In Grey video series. This is actually how the album is intended to begin; with a relaxed, groovy intro tune followed immediately by a fiery tech fest, which I think is brilliant. "An Excerpt Of Nothing" is the third of the tunes (out of three, with "Sphere Of Light" and "Deadhead" comprising the others) presented to me with only two guitar parts via Guitar Pro, the guys deliberately allowing me to build my drum part from scratch.

The choruses were partially improvised, as Adam and Pete requested some changes when they came to the studio for drum tracking, making it a bit more cutting and heavy. I also wrote parts from scratch for "Another Obsession", for the demo featured only an acoustic guitar. I wanted the drums to have a different vibe to complement the stark difference in this one, so I used Taylor's old Pearl Masterworks kick, my 15" TRX MDM hats and big Craviotto snare (this was long before my Pearl endorsement, obviously).

I rehearsed AEON for the first time the night prior to tracking, then knocked it out right in front of the guys. It was a close shave! Haha. There's a funny moment when the footage cuts from me wearing pants to shorts around 2:17. I was having some trouble nailing the double bass burst and sought to get a little more comfy, clothes-wise. You'll also see me doubt myself around 4:07 after the crazy fill-in, thinking "we'll see if it's right in the mix, because I have no idea right now."

Dyed In Grey is hard at work tracking the last bit of vocals, so the release of this full-length shouldn't be delayed much longer. I'm quite anticipatory!
