OLED screens decay their color blue in about 3 to 5 years (they're over-driven in voltage and lifespan radically reduced). Plain LED screens die when their backlight burns out. LCDs will leak if allowed to grow too hot in direct sunlight. Plasma screens have great lifespans if the screens don't leak or the emitters over-driven. Cathode Ray Tubes last for ages, but the rubber vacuum seals decay and dry out over decades. The best lifespan for an inert display would be OLED, next up passive LCD.

What happened to all the flat screens? Did something go wrong with the flat screen LCDs?

Only when stored under specific conditions. I've used some pretty eroded microfiche.

True, but microfiche lasts hundreds of years. Digital media doesn't.

I love how most of this stuff is either digital or completely out of use now ;)
