Not a single former Defence Secretary had purchased MIG aircraft or repaired the existing aircraft from 2002. Such action had been taken only under the present Defence Secretary.
This was revealed by Sri Lanka Air Force Aircraft Engineering Director Jayanath Kumarasinghe. He made this revelation when the case filed by Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa against the Sunday Leader newspaper was taken up at the Mount Lavinia Magistrates Court today. The case was adjourned until the 10th of January.
Senior Attorney M.U.M. Ali Sabry giving views said the entire transaction had been presented with maximum transparency. All requirements had been met and it was carried out according to the law. The Director Engineering of the Air Force made submissions today. He said the Defence Secretary wanted them to continue the proceedings to preserve his image and for the people to be aware of the process launched by the Government.
