Asked what humanity is doing wrong for the honeybees, Gunther Hauk, author of Toward Saving the Honeybee, answers: "everything." The lead teacher of Biodynamics, Rudolf Steiner's brilliantly effective methods of spiritted organic plant and wildlife care and restoration at the Pfeiffer Institute of Sunbridge College at the Three Fold Center in Rockland County (a NYC suburb) for over fifteen years, Hauk sees the honeybee as a mysterious creature who needs our help. Take issue with the EPA's barely if illegal maneuverings to avoid the obvious problems inherent in today's systemic pesticides (Gaucho, Rapid-Round Up, and all neonicotinboids and systemic pesticides), I say. Hauk would agree but adds that we need to put more love into our beekeeping, and cool it with the trucking, monocultures, materialism-in-general, the sugar-feeding, the artificial inseminations, the faux-Queen-breeding, and the killing harvest of royal jelly and other bee products from honey to pollen to propolis without leaving enough for the bees to not merely survive but also to feel loved and cared about, to help them thrive. Lastly, when you consider that the honeybees have been curating the plant world for us for ten million years, watching humanity destroy rain forests, forests, trees, oceans and watersheds year in and year out, in our persuit of egotism and material gain (whatever that is, on a close-to-dead planet...), may also be factors in causing the honeybee to make haste back to the Venutian heavens from whence She came. But listen to Gunther; he tells it better AND with a beautiful German accent and the sweet soulfulness of a man who literally has devoted the last twenty years to teaching people to heal the earth and her honeybees. Look for Gunther in the magnificent, gorgeous, honeybee salvation themed Internationally astute and very funny film Queen of the Sun by the very groovy Taggart Siegel and Collective Eye Films; practice biodynamics, read Gunther's Toward Saving the Honeybee, support Gunther's Spikenard Farm bee sanctuary, send this film out to all your buddies and save the honeybee for all generations to enjoy forever, pulllleeeze! We all need to think hard on this with our heads, will hard with our kidneys, love hard with our hearts and take it very seriously; our souls' future depends on it.
