'Veni Domine', Félix Mendelssohn Bartholdy

Dir.: Ireneu Segarra

The origin of the Escolanía could be traced back to the monastic schools of the Middle Ages. The monks who founded the monastery (1025) hailed from the abbey of Ripoll, where there was a flourishing monastic school. The "Escolania" soon developed its own characteristic by enhancing religious services with its fine singing as early as the XIV century.

The golden age of the "Escolania" extended from the XVI to the XVIII centuries, as it was said by a contemporary chornicler of the time that "Practically all the Choirmasters, Organists, Precentors of Cataluna, Aragon, Valencia, Castilla, Navarra, and Galicia haad received their musical training in the Escolania of

  • The Escolania sing this Mendelssohn, especially under the direction of Padre Irenu, with great legato lines and perfect dynamic. This should be a lesson in choral singing for everyone - bravissimi!

  • Absolutly Maestrovici. Also them approach with the vocal art is similar with the Tölzer: severity, great precision and fine music scholar.

  • Magnifique!

  • @treblechoir99 you and maestrovoci are both right on point with your comments.

  • Oh yes that recording i have too :)
