Ok, I know this is really shitty quality, but my camera couldn't focus properly and the strobe light pollution from the damn Stefan Needle in West End was interfering!

It appeared three times on the same evening (Sat 15 August 2009) flying over the north-west suburbs of inner city Brisbane, doing a half-circle towards the CBD.

Through my binoculars I could see it was a steady orange light (no red flashing flight light). I know it looks like it's blinking in the first part of this footage but that's the camera lens not being able to cope with the atmospheric distortion. About 3 mins into the footage it shows it was a steady light (and no, it's not a star - it was moving and I'm not a moron).

I saw it first at about 8:45pm. It was unusual enough to make me grab my camera. It made a lazy half-circle in the sky. After a couple of minutes it winked out. I heard no engines.

It reappeared at about 9:20pm just north of where it was the first time, and it travelled roughly the same flight path. I assume it was moving higher into the atmosphere because it faded slowly to a bright pinprick before I lost sight of it.

At 11:44pm two similar orange orbs appeared just above the Mt Coot-tha skyline moving from north to south before the lagging light winked out suddenly. Soon after the leading light went out too.

Anyone else see it? Know what they were? I see military jets at night flying to and from Amberley airbase to the south but they always have the distinctive red flashing light. I've never seen a plane or helicopter that is orange.

Can't believe I actually got to film something out of the ordinary!

  • we saw exactly the same thing - same night out at tamborine. there was two. it was fairly low by the time we saw it. it came towards us then went left and hovered for about 1 minute. 10 minutes later another came. My friend tried to video it but it didnt work. I have a dslr and have an image but its just on orange ball of light. The light was static, there was no flashing. it made no sound.

  • @missychop Seen another one since but it didn't video at all. Still don't know what it was - maybe a helicopter but a strange one. I doubt they are chinese lanterns - I think they are banned due to the bush fire threat (but I don't know!?).

  • I believe you, i am from bris also and i have footage of the same orange light but closer it just look like a ball of fire with no sound, i will send you a msge when i have uploaded it.

  • Thanks, I look forward to your vid. ;-)

  • sorry to burst your bubble guys but it was the last night of the brisbane exhibition and there were skydivers with flares on,in the vicinity around 8.45 pm..which would explain the circular motion..as for the lights after that, there is a flight path that heads out over mt cootha for select choppers..

  • Yes, it was the last night of the Ekka, but why did they rise and not fall (to the ground)?

It is possible, I supose, but the two flying over Mt Coot-tha were definitely not helicopters since they had no flashing red flight lights when I looked through my binoculars. Now unless they were skydivers with rocket packs....

  • @missychop I've seen it to just amazing Benjamin Creme speaks about this on YT "The Star Sign" see what you Think.

  • Hello cookie had just finished work and got home about 1am on monday morning and saw the two red lights in close proximity was at cardseldine and it was to the right of mt cootha there was a fair bit of scattered cloud and they seemed to disappear into it. Did you see something similar around this time or was yours earlier?

  • @KeeghanPainterMusic wow same suburb, same thing!

  • last night, i was driving home with my girlfriend at albany creek when i saw these 4 orange lights, i thought they were stars until they started moving closer together :/

  • I would love for someone to reply to this... i live in albany creek just near the jinker track and was standing in my driveway tonight and saw what looked like exactly the same thing as this!! except there were 2 of them they didnt move that fast so defs not a meteor and they couldnt have been a chopper or plane or jet coz there were no flashing lights and it was dead silent and we couldnt hear a thing!...

  • i see that same light every night out at samford but it seems alot closer and brighter its there about 7 730 every night every one i show cant explain it. i thought maybe a chopper but as portantwas says there is no flashing lights and it moves around very slowly then just disappears. some times there is two but usually just the one. going to try get some video of it tonight

  • Wow my neighbour and i seen the exact same lights but 2 of them over Regents Park Brisbane 2nite 14th May 2011. My neighbour had his binoculars and up close they were like orbs and the light was also bright orange.
