Patrick Wolf performs The Bachelor with Florence Welch (Florence and the Machine) live at the London Palladium on Sunday 15 November 2009.

The show was pretty incredible and featured, in addition to Patrick's regular band, a six piece string section, a choir and guest appearances from Florence, Alec Empire and the wonderful Gwendoline Christie (who appears in the official video for Damaris). Patrick declared that it was the best show he'd ever played. Who am I to argue?!

Florence fans take note! If you have found this video by searching for the fabulous Ms Welch, and are new to Patrick, I urge you to delve a little deeper into the wonderful world of Wolf! In particular, check out Patrick's most recent album, The Bachelor (with which this song shares its title). If you love Lungs, you will probably love The Bachelor too. Eliza Carthy sings the female vocal on the album version of this song BTW.

  • @some1elsenotyou I read somewhere that the person who sang on the album was miscredited, it wasn't actually Eliza Carthy singing. If you listen to some of her music, her voice doesn't sound much like the singer on the album at all. I have no idea who the singer actually is though.

  • @buttercupdelirium It is definitely Eliza Carthy singing on the album version of The Bachelor. Her voice is much deeper than usual, but the phrasing & inflections are unmistakable. If you go to the Fused Magazine website and search for 'Patrick Wolf Bachelor', you can read an interview with Patrick from May 2009 in which he explains why Eliza's voice sounds the way it does.

@sofiadubon Nice guess! Marianne Faithfull does, however, duet with Patrick on 'Magpie' on his Magic Position album!

  • @SeeGigFilmGigPost It's Eliza Carthy, she was pregnant during the recording of The Bachelor and Patrick loved the way her vocals sounded so he put her on the record

  • @jamiephiliptv Yes indeed, as I said above in reply to @buttercupdelirium. The Fused Magazine interview I referred to actually contains the 'pregnancy' anecdote. It's worth a read.

  • One of the best shows of 2009.

  • Absolutely! Check out my SeeGigFilmGigPost Top 10 Gigs of the Year 2009 video - you can find it in the 'More from..' box on the right.

  • Thanks so much for posting this, it's amazing!

  • they need to release a record.

  • I kept hearing about this, but never heard it and oh my god I'm glad I finally did hear it. Those two make wonderful music together.

  • AWESOME :D best combo ever!

  • florence give me your voice

  • I wish to complain! As an old man who had Florence brought to his attention by a younger woman (bless you Belinda!) I think it is unfair that now I am looking for Patrick Wolf, Sian Alice Group, Beirut and on and on and on..... I used to just listen to the eighties. So much to listen to, and so little time!

  • @buttercupdelirium I have no idea either, or if was someone knowingly in the folk scene but i was listening to this metallica song: memory remains, and Marianne Faithfull's deep voice sound very alike, but like I was saying I have no clue.
