For our last Farm School at Deergnaw:
Packing up the cars, excitement builds
It's time for Farm School; Oh, that horrible hill!
Driving up the dirt road, signs point the way
Onwards to Deergnaw for some nature play.
Arlene and Russ, arms open wide
Welcome us to share their home, by their side
Smudging with sage, cleansing our spirit
Leaving our urban selves to sleep with the crickets.
Chorus:
Let us roam underneath the Redwood trees
Smell the bay leaves in the fog and the breeze
See the stars for miles and miles around
Deergnaw...memories abound.
Prayer flags, calling directions
Red for passion, blue introspection
We all shout "Ho!" and it's time to go
Explore the land, reconnect with our true home.
Swimming in the pond, cold water splash
Racing to the dock in a mad dash
Fishing rods hopeful for a bite
While boaters paddle with all their might.
Chorus
Mosquitoes and ticks, we've got them all
Turkey vultures soar, coyotes call.
Yellow jackets keep us on our toes
While worms help our compost decompose.
We give gratitude for all of this land,
To build our cultures, strange and grand.
Expeditions using science skills
Solo night walks test our courage and our wills.
Chorus
The Warrior and the Visionary
Show us strength and the extraordinary
The Healer inside, and the Teacher too
Learn to guide our way, pure and true.
Thank you Arlene for having a dream
Sharing you love of earth and being green
Planting seeds, your dream will grow
Care and stewardship you have bestowed.
Chorus
