  • Haha! I feel the same way. I changed my major from poly sci to engineering when the economy got poor.

  • I want to be a museum curator. I couldn't work in an art museum without taking studying art history. It's true that a degree in art history doesn't open a ton of doors, but that doesn't mean it's totally worthless.

  • @QuoEstVeritasEh i know most artists dont like to teach or work in a museum, but if their desire to create is strong, why bother to do something else in life which does not make you happy? Not everyone is made to be an engineer, lawyer or doctor. Remember, this is a career where you can work at a local grocery store yet have the potential to exhibit and sell your work anywhere between 1K-10K depending on who you know (galleries, buyers)

  • two of my friends graduated with Fine Arts degrees. One took a year off working as an intern at a local museum while selling his paintings. He's now an assistant to the museum's curator. The other was talented enough to get an assistant professor position at a community college while continuing with his Master's in painting. Next year, he will have a full time position at a major university teaching intermediate painting while exhibiting his work. If that path gives you passion, more pwer

  • Fine Arts major here -YUP it's hard but after I did get a SECOND degree in interactive design, I can say with confidence that, maybe it's just me but... take the average accountant, engineer, and some lawyers, and you will find that there is sometimes a defecit in character depth or range of conversational interest. I am NOT saying you NEED to 'study' art to get this but a desire to think outside the box, see or hear things differently makes you LESS DULL. I suppose it's ok to be dull.

  • @TheCollegeWorld13 I'd add if you do want to get a degree in the humanities, a minor or a double major with a more competitive degree like business, science, engineering could help. Then again, there is no guarantee of career and financial success with a college degree.

  • @ayut123456 I would have to disagree with you. Out of all of my friends that majored in Art History, Interior Design, Painting, Sculpture, etc., guess how many of them use their degrees? None. They all work at places such as Safeway, Fast Food Chains, Receptionists, and other jobs that do not require a degree. If you are going to end up working one of those jobs, why in the world would you waste the money to go to college? When choosing a major you should look at the ROI.

  • Haha I totally agree! It irritates me when people get a liberal arts degree and then they cry that they can't get a job. People: If you are going to college, go into business, medicine, law, or engineering. If you are getting a degree in art, dance, music, or something equally as ridiculous you are wasting your time. To all of the people that are talking about the price of paintings: Guess what? Picasso is representative of like .01 percent of the population.

  • @ayut123456 But will it pay the rent?

  • @ayut123456

    Translation:

You guys are stupid. You dont know enough about Art History. Art History majors learn about the great things others have done, and realize that not only can't they match that, but they have also wasted a good 200k on stuff they could have learnt from wikipedia.

The only reason I wouldn't understand what you say is because you use big words in an attempt to distract me from that fact that you have no argument.

Also, as a physics major, I win the big word contest.

  • @ayut123456 You use big words, but that doesn't change the fact that you're stupid.
