Because we killed all their natural predators, the apex fish (Tuna, Swordfish, Marlin) are all gone!

@Harrower13 I'd only feel bad if it was a super giant squid (like human size) but I agree that squids are freaking delicious, sorry but I'll keep eating them :D

@Harrower13 Their intelligence is startling, especially for such a short life expectancy. Once thought to be extremely vicious and predatory even towards man, one researcher and his team decided to dive in with them...and were greeted, individually, by each Squid amongst a pod...who all came up to them and "touched" them lightly before backing calmly away and proceeding to hunt right around them...actually using the dive lights to help herd the fish.

@namelesssnitchy The U.S. and many other countries have made drastic changes in fishing over the years. Working both with Biologists and concervationists to decrease the effects of 'mass fishing' in the ocean. Strict laws and huge fines also serve as precautions and punishment. However some counties such as Japan and China fail to abide or do enough to change for the better. But we can only hope for the best, times are changing everyday. : /

I think it's important to point out that Humboldt Squids are such successful sea predators that they are starting to show up (in large numbers) in waters far removed from where we expect them. If you think fishing is some form of animal cruelty... well, I don't agree, but that's a different issue. If you think we're putting Humboldt Squid in danger of extinction, you have no idea what you are talking about. These squid are doing quite well.
Squid meat is good eats, and these are abundant!
