Taking Jeremy Shafer's advice, I gave this spinning top a "whirl". It's construction is pretty straight forward, especially if you watch Jeremy's tutorial or view the diagrams from his book, Origami Ooh La La! I tried different paper and paper sizes. I decided that the foil, although the smallest paper size, worked the best for me and created the best spinner. Creating the point at the bottom of the spinner and the spinning "handle" was the most challenging. For the "handle", I didn't have the strength to twist it satisfactorily so I used pliers. (This might not have worked so well with paper instead of foil.) If you'd like to make this top, check out Jeremy's tutorial.

Jeremy Shafer has a tutorial on his channel. Check it out.

  • how?

See Jeremy Shafer's YouTube video. I used foil paper from origami paper from a craft store. I think it works best for this type of spinning top.

  • I didn't get as good an image as what I would have liked. There was more reflection than I had anticipated. However, the hidden edge pulled out quite nicely. It's just with the smaller model, it's not as prominent. It's probably evident, I haven't been doing origami very long, but I like to start a model large and scale down - when it makes sense. I'm doing the dragon in your book and for that, I want to scale up. Thanks for your input!

  • MAKE A TUTORIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • cool!

  • Very nice folding of the top. I can't tell for sure, but from 1:00 it looks like you might not have pulled out the hidden edge. Pulling out the edge makes it a little sturdier, You might also try 10 inch paper or foil; that gave me the longest spin.
