  • It's the music that would become or evolve into the English Baroque.

Baroque is music that took place after 1600, so before would be considered Late Renaissance.

There is still a layer of piety and austerity that is attached to ancient music, which separates it from the true Baroque.

  • It is expected to "ramble". It is a Fantasy - meaning no preset style or dance form. Hence, these are improvisatory in character.

  • @pacoenigmatic late renaissance....it's the elizabethan period, a golden age in english music....

  • Really good stuff. Always keeps me wondering what those talents from ages ago would have done today!! :)

  • @smithsherman You are so astonishingly funny.

  • To me the difference is in the balance of the voices. With Monteverdi, one voice becomes predominant, the rest accompaniment.

  • Wunderschöne Alte Musik! - Fantastisch!

  • It's a bit rambling, but the way Bull uses harmonic progressions is quite lovely.

  • Thanks for the reply. I am just beginning to discover music from this era, and it is useful to work out how the different styles dissipated throughout europe.

    thanks
