Susan Orlean (author, The Orchid Thief)

Introduction by COM Journalism professor Christopher Daly

Susan Orlean speaks about the so-called death of traditional media. She reaffirms the life of stories (no matter what medium is being used), and claims that this may be the most ideal time for storytellers. Orlean urges the audience to look past the packaging or delivery service for their material, and to focus on the content that is being produced. To do this, she recommends contemplating what it means to be a writer, and talks about the reasons passion is so vital for those in her profession.

Hosted by the College of Communication on April 30, 2011.
