Pe 14 februarie 2009 este aleasă de juriul de specialitate şi de televoting să reprezinte Republica Moldova la Concursul Muzical Eurovision 2009 cu piesa Hora din Moldova.[1] Pe 14 mai participă la semifinala a doua a concursului, calificându-se în marea finală de pe 16 mai. Nelly Ciobanu was born on 28th October, 1974 in the Kantemirsky region in the south of Moldova. She made her professional debut in the 'Morning Star' competition in 1994, in which she was awarded first prize. A performance in the 1996 competition "Maluri de Prut" followed, and in 1997 Nelly was awarded third prize at the contest "Mamaia, 97". She also took third prize in the "Sea of Friends" competition in 1998 and second place at the contest "Voice of Asia" in 1999. That same year Nelly also received first prize at the contest "Vladimir Ivasiuk". In 2000, Nelly won first prize at the prestigious "Slavianskij Bazaar" contest in Belarus. She also won the second prize at the "New Wave" contest in Jürmala in 2003. The same year Nelly received the Grand Prix at the "Claudia Shulzhenko" contest. The creative career of Nelly Ciobanu has developed steadily; she has sung on the same stage as many Western and Russian stars and is planning concerts in Eastern and Western Europe, China and Korea. Over the last few years the singer has released four albums, with a fifth in preparation. Next she will sing "Hora from Moldova" at the 2009 Eurovision contest. The music was composed by Vyacheslav Daniljuk with lyrics by Andrey Gadzhiu and Nelly herself. Despite her youth, Nelly is the most authoritative singer in Moldova confirmed by the VIP award, offered every six years. In 2001 Nelly Ciobanu received the rank of Honoured Artist of Moldova. Since 2007, she has led one of the most popular TV music programs in Moldova "Vedete la bis" (Stars Encore). Shulzhenko contest (Kharkiv, Ukraine), 2nd place in national pre-selection for Eurovision Song Contest 2005, was jury member at "Five Stars. Sings in 11 languages: Romanian, Russian, English, Italian, and even Korean. She has toured with many Russian artists and international stars such as Patricia Kaas and Mike Bolton.
