This is a different version than the 45 I have. When did this come out? Great song!

It was a hit in May-June 1965 on the TCF Hall label. The flip side was a great cover of Buddy Knox's "Party Doll", which was surprisingly left off of the subsequent album.

This is the truth; I swear. In SF. (Presidio Base), I was in the stockade w/Dicky Lee.
He was one hell of a guy. He refused to go to Vietnam.

Born Richard Lipscomb, Dickie Lee had several pop hits in the early 60's, then became a noted country singer/songwriter during the 70's -- he wrote "She Thinks I Still Care".
I think "Laurie" was produced by Ray Stevens; he could be the one playing keyboard (harpsicord) on this.

Hey, you've got Vivian Leigh!

This has always been one of our favourites. Chris wrote it up on the songfacts website.

I was born in 61. I remember my aunt singing this song to me at the cemetery and it scared me. LOL

Thank you for sharing this.

This is so weird! My mom used to sing this to me to sleep. I never knew it was an actual song. I'm only used to hearing it how she sings it and this just doesn't sound right lmao.
