I've heard of quilting this way and I'm planning to try it out on my next quilt. I'd like to get a sewing machine that does all those fun different kinds of stitches. The machine I have right now just does a straight stitch and a zigzag stitch.

@figuringstuff My aunt does great quilts like this with only a zigzag stitch. She changes up the widths and lengths and even the thread colors to give it great interest. I didn't know you quilted--now that's pretty exciting!

@JansJeweledLife Yes, I've made like 3.5 quilts. They were all pretty simple, except for the one that is halfway finished. I've been working on it for several years on and off (actually, I haven't worked on it since my son was born, close to 2 years ago). I'll get that one done eventually. I plan to make a quilt for my daughter and my son sometime this year...maybe for Christmas.
