What McCain would have done is unknown. And irrelevant. We do know that Afghanistan is a black hole which will result in huge losses for America in terms of our troops' lives and health and in terms of resources flushed down the rat hole. Let the Chinese and the Indians take care of Afghanistan. They have huge armies and can pacify Afghanistan much more effectively than we can. Did Obama (like Bush) learn nothing from his study of the failures of the US government in Vietnam?

Sending troops to Afghanistan is a mistake. Should Obama make a mistake just because he said he'd make that mistake during the campaign? What reason do we have to send our troops there? None. At least in Iraq there was oil which we could pump out and steal. All they produce in Afghanistan is opium and we already import opium from Mexico.
