Angels Among Us
(Gracies Story)
Most of us at one time or another have heard amazing stories and testimonies of other individuals life altering encounters with angels. However, relatively few of us can personally testify to the experience of the true physical and visual presence of angels interacting in our lives. This is the incredible personal story of my familys encounter with the presence of Gods angels in their midst.
Gracie Joan Lord was the third child of my daughter and her husband, born into the world on January 30, 2008. However, through unforeseen complications of delivery, and circumstances beyond anyones control, she sustained tragic birth injuries that she was not able to overcome. Despite all the prayer and significant medical intervention, two days later Gracie went home to be with the Lord.
Words cannot describe the anguish and pain our family experienced throughout the few days of her short life and the weeks following her untimely passing. At that time, Gracies parents were uncertain of their faith and not spiritually close to Jesus. Despite this however, Gracies dad shared several stories of a seemingly strange phenomenon he was experiencing. During times of overwhelming anguish, he could feel the physical manifestation of the warmth and weight of a hand on his shoulder. Each experience provided a sense of peace and calm beyond anything he was able to comprehend. My heart was warmed, as I truly believed that he was experiencing the comfort of one of Gods angels.
The first night that the family spent alone in their home following her passing, Gracies sister Zoe, almost three years old, awoke in the middle of the night and became very difficult to settle. Again her dad, sitting with Zoe on her bed and feeling overwhelmed with grief and the stress of the moment, felt the calming effect of a weight and warmth on his shoulder. Zoe immediately stopped her fussing, put her hand on his shoulder in the same spot, and said whos your friend, Daddy? Hes cool Im not scared of him It was obvious that somehow in her innocence Zoe was able to see something or someone that he could not.
Over the ensuing weeks, there were many more delightful angel sightings through Zoe. The family experienced and understood Gods presence with them in this most difficult time of their lives.
We sometimes need to be reminded that God does not cause bad things to happen to us. However, He allows it and will use it to His glory and purpose. In this case, God used Gracies short but precious life to reveal Himself in a real and powerful way.
Approximately ten months later, on December 14, 2008, Gracies dad and her paternal grandfather were baptized. Gracies mom has since re-dedicated her life to Jesus. Gracies father, mother, brother, sister, grandparents and extended family have all come to faith in Christ and are actively serving the Lord. In her ever-so-brief life, God used Gracie to give the Gift of Life to her family and beyond. Gracie Joan Lord you will always be the Angel of My Heart.
