I had the great good fortune to see Sutherland perform this in '67 at Covent Garden and again in '72 & '73 at the Met. Her voice never varied; she was a vocal wonder. I so wish this had been broadcast on PBS then. Luckily for me I had very good seats in both theatres & the size & precision of her voice was such a thrill. Pavarotti was just as thrilling. What a wonderful cast in these performances. I have been so lucky in the experiences I have had in life and this one has to be near the top.

I love Sutherland's sound at this period... the early 70's. Her voice grew in richness and power. She lost the silvery tone of the earliest 60's, but I find the balance between the power, the range and release of her voice so satisying during this period. I would love to hear a live Lucia during this time. Thank you for finding and uploading!
