I disagree with you in regards to Dragon Warrior's role as a "modern" CRPG. If anything it was the defining "split" game, not the defining "modern" game. MMOs evolved from another path of CRPGs than Dragon Warrior. While the two paths have influenced each other, I would say that the defining step into modern CRPGs were when Ultima and Might & Magic took their step into a more user friendly and story driven direction.

2:12 Well, since they came out around the same time, I'd say that Dragon Quest/Warrior and Final Fantasy were playground rivals that became step-brothers when their parents Square and Enix got married (And is uncle to Secret of Mana and Crystal Chronicles). Although, I heard it was good friends with Phantasy Star and Ys.
