This is a video that describes how a Tesla coil works in basic terms. To see more videos of this coil under power watch "Tesla Coil 2.0 with 1 foot arcs" and "Tesla Coil 2.0 with double power (3 foot arcs)".

  • can i use an ignition coil or a flyback transformer in place of the neon sign transformers?

  • Not sure. NSTs are the best because they are current limited. They're available on ebay.

  • do both transformers conver to 12k or are they both 6k?

  • They're both 12kV 60 mA.

  • when diagrams show the secondary leading to earth would the core of the transformer be the best place to connect it?

  • No! Connect that to either a grounding spike or to a large piece of chicken wire mesh that rests underneath the Tesla coil. I use the latter.

  • @20fireman12 or does a Bipolar tesla coil do that?

  • in theory could i connect many coils in series to build more current?

  • @DJ027X Google is your friend.

Iron screws up the idea, like a motor its a timing thing.

Primarys field collapses at the very base it induces current, that on each wind induces current on the next until the top where the electrons build on the torid until that gets saturated thats why they use spheres or rings (no points)

Go on google study some theory, and join a forum or 2 .Really not that complected

  • How do you build the top part of the coil?

  • what heigh has the secundary coil? and what AWG wire did you use?? please answer my question im making my first tesla coil and this lokk very good congratulations (sorry for my bad englis)

  • could you make a small or scaled down version for us amitures please

  • Would it not be more efficient to A: spiral the primary coil upward around the secondary coil, elongating the magnetic field, and 2: use a iron/ferrite core instead of air thus fortifying the strength of the magnetic field? I'm certain A is correct, but I believe putting iron in the core may just give for more inductive resistance, which wouldn't be so good. Btw, if you run high voltage, high freq ac through your secondary, it would make a sweet inductance heater, provided it doesn't melt itsel

  • i must watch this again cos i didnt understood it all.

  • Who has an idea on how to use the tesla coil for wireless transmission of electrical energy efficiently

  • ..What are you using for the capacitor?...I built teslas 50+ years ago as a kid...I used glass and aluminum foil...glass about 6"X8"...20 or so plates...old vibrator type ignition coil...others I see use a distributor with small electric motor turning it.
