  • @spankyelmojr What an absolutely horrid thing to say, I think you would be a little numb to if your mother died aftering flying in to see you compete. There is a word for the likes of you !

  • I would have so loved to have been there: that day, this American became Canadian. Grace and courage took the ice: in my eyes, she won gold. 5/5 stars.

  • I find the "I'm American but I cheered for her" responses rather disturbing, to be honest. Since when can we only cheer for our own country?

  • I just LOVE Joannie! What a beautiful skater and beautiful woman...I'm American, but boy did I root for her!!! Gotta love her!! GO JOANNIE!! LOVE YA GIRL!! :)

  • @fantastischfish so THIS american is herself....

  • @shaneylle I think stormspinner means that SHE is American but became an honary Canadian in support of Joanie for the day.

  • One of the strongest skaters in history.

  • @stormspinner1 what are u talking about?? shes native from canada, quebec.

  • We are all born with different looks, tendencies and talents, so I think some of us are born with more emotional strength than others. Call it "heart, guts, moxie", whatever. But our families, especially parents, teach us by example. I believe Joannie's mother must have been a very loving and strong person herself. She raised a daughter who showed the strength of love, and who pushed through her own pain to pursue a shared dream. Joannie won the bronze medal, but SHE ALSO EARNED IT.

  • As I was disgusted with at least one of the two choices for the women's figure skating olympic team, Joannie quickly became my favorite. She showed so much strength and determination during this performance.
