This is my 1963 1/2 Galaxie 500 Fastback which I bought recently. It's a 427 R code engine and 4 speed top loader gearbox, although it was originally a manual 390 car.
Today, I took it for a drive for the first time, and I was quite impressed with the 427 and the music it makes!

  • I thought the 406 was the biggest option in '63. Guess I'm wrong.

  • @MrRonnieG When the 1963 1/2 Galaxie was introduced, it was the fastback, and with that introduction came the 427.

  • nice...i never found out what the r code meant all i knew was that its rare...i got a 70 500 xl

  • You'd probably like the video of my "70 Galaxie as well then! I've owned mine for over 20 years.

  • 427 r code was the biggest and baddast the only way too fly the 427 was band from nascar because chevrolet and chrysler could not keep up sweet ride my friend i had a 63 galaxie with 390 in it passed everything but the gas station

  • My dad bought a 63 from my uncle. It had a 289 with a 4 spd. My dad sold it in california when we moved back south. I loved riding in the big car on the diamond tucked seat as a kid.

  • @wickedbloodyvamp The R code is the 427 with 2 carburetors. Q code is a 427 with 1 carburetor I think.

  • My parents had two of these when I was a baby. Both of em were black but my moms had red interior and a 427. I barely remember the cars but my dad still talks about them. I wish those cars were still around. The Galaxy was the coolest car Ford ever made aside from the Mustang in my opinion.

  • @wickedbloodyvamp

"R code" engines were built to qualify for the NHRA and IHRA super stock class.

Great looking car! we have one just like it that will be taking a 427 SOHC hemi.

  • @galman460 nice car mate,I have a 68 lincoln continental mark 3 which I wouldnt trade for very many cars but a 63 galaxy is defnitely on the list of possibilities, especilly if it was 427 powered.

  • My dream car!!!
