Rajendra Pachauri, president of the IPCC, tells us what we can do, as individuals, to fight climate change.
He says:"I keep telling everybody when they ask me, 'what changes in lifestyles?' I tell them 'start with your diet, start eating less meat'."

  • So true.

  • # Sea ice extent has been dramatically reduced since 1979.

    # Since measurements began in 2004, there has been a dramatic decrease in sea ice thickness.

    # Greenland is losing ice mass and the rate is accelerating.

    # Antarctica is losing ice mass and the rate is accelerating.

    # The average mass balance of the glaciers with available long-term observation series around the world continues to decrease.

    # 90% of worldwide glaciers are retreating.

  • @shoelessjohn

mass extinction? because we are really fucked if we dont act very soon? Our responsibility?

We release a massive amount of the co2 that nature stored in the last ~300.000.000 years. Co2 is a greenhouse gas. Thats why it is "bad". The scientific community is really concerned. The predictions the IPCC concluded are still VERY "conservative" and reserved.

If your interested (sadly dont think..)

    A REALLY Inconvenient Truth

    Sorry for my childish english.

  • @aerobique I think most rational people who come across our discussion will now have a clearer picture of who represents each side of this debate.

A final thought.. lets say that everything you have parroted so far is true and accurate. What is the thing that makes it a crisis? Why is it bad? In your doomsday scenario, what is the final outcome of doing nothing?

  • @shoelessjohn

    you discovered the secret

Climate change is a lie by scientist who want to takeover the world! Its all to tax you texans to create a new world order. Long story..It all began with charles darwin who tryed to deny the truth of the bible. And then of course there was NASA. You know why they didnt went to the moon? It was all the aliens on area51 who came to earth to talk to bigfoot and nessie- but they crashed into the cia-sattelites that monitoring all our thoughts...and so on

  • @aerobique The graph on the link you provide is a sham. It is Ice records at the start, then it is an interpolation of climate measurements stuck on the end using a biased method. Note that NASA just collects data, the reports are generated by the IPCC, a political organization.

Finally, anyone who suggests that it is contrarian to further question trends is trying to shut down the discussion. That isn't how real science works. Anyone promoting such is either a zealot, or has an agenda.

  • @shoelessjohn

oh my god... YAAAAWN you deniers are sooo USELESS, distractive and annoying

    climate . nasa . gov / evidence /

and check out youtube / user / greenman3610 for entertaining debuning of "their" evil distraction

  • @aerobique It's very convenient for you to look at data since 1970, because the trend from there generally goes up.

What is your opinion of the Ice core records? These records represent millenia, and show the last 40 year blip on the radar to be not only unremarkable, but cooler than other periods in the past.

  • @shoelessjohn

Simply look at the trends. They are going clearly UP since the 70´s.

Denier-lobbie-cultists are the ones who try to confuse the stupid public with every trick you can imagine. My agenda called science, your agenda is fox news and their selfish and dangerous oil/free market lobbies.

"In fact, it is fair to say that global warming may be the most carefully and fully studied scientific topic in human history."

--- Ralph Cicerone, President of the National Academy of Science

  • @aerobique I'm surprised that you posted that quote again. I didn't think I would have to point out that declaring 2010 the hottest year on record when it is barely half over comes across more as wishful thinking than science. Here again, if you look at the accumulated data points for this "statistic", it is easy to call 2010 the "hottest year on record" because it contains one data point that is higher than any data point from the 1998 record. Apparently that is enough to make you happy.
